13th: Elly obtained Che!

We cycled from the Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op, via the Innocent Railway to Edinburgh's eastern edge then mostly via cycle-paths to Musselburgh. Our return journey was by road to Seafield and then cycle-path from Leith to Servants' Quarters. Each time we return to SQ via the Water of Leith path, I attempt Bells Brae. It's hard going but I intend to be able to get up it without standing on the pedals some day.

Our bikes are named as follows

  1. Vilior: my 20-year old Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op tourer
  2. Pobarenk, Elly's old and cheap mountain bike
  3. Che, Elly's new tourer/off-road bike.
Can you see the connection?

14th: More cycling

We decided to follow up yesterday's 16 miles with an hour or so along the Union Canal towpath. To my delight, there is fresh tarmac until about half a mile beyond the bypass. It took us under an hour to reach the bypass, so we pushed on to Ratho Station. We stopped that the Bridge Inn for a drink an to plan our next move. We realised that we were at least 6 miles from home and that it wasn't that much further to the nearest station (Uphall) so it seemed desirable to explore further rather than simply head home. We reached Uphall station just in time for the 18:07 train. It took the train 14 minutes to take us back what had taken us 3 hours. My backside may never forgive the lack of tarmac from after the bypass to Broxburn!

Because today is ∏-day, I cooked vegherds' pie and pear crumble. Yum!
