This was the first part of the trip organised by Freedom Treks. The Randoms were divided about whether to use FT's luggage-carrying service: Random Bozo believes that the term ‘holiday’ precludes being organised by 9am, so he had minimised his luggage to fit in 2 panniers: sandals and rainproofs in one, spare clothes and documentation in the other, along with his under-saddle toolkit and a frame bag with gels and chocolate. Random Bozette carried a pannier with the spare inner-tubes supplied by the cycle-holiday organisation, her rainproofs and not much else.
The route went west from Konstanz along the south bank of the Rhine to Stein am Rhein, then the north bank to Schaffhausen. At the falls, Random Bozo, along with many other tourists, took a wee boat to an island in the middle of the falls. The Randoms ate at Restaurant Indian Masala and discovered Schwartzer Falke, the beer of the trip so far.
